As the broadband market see more and more players coming up with aggressive pricing, MPT is still one of the dominant broadband player at least coverage-wise.
From a technology standpoint, the public telco is the only one in the country to own a PSTN network and therefore to provide ADSL services nationwide.
MPT also offers fiber plans for consumers but pricing was completely outdated in light of the recent development in the Myanmar market.
Not anymore.
The public operator has released a new price plan for FTTH which is extremely aggressive and will definitely shake the market. The objective is clearly to respond to Telenor which released an ambitious broadband plan last year.
MPT new fiber offer is only limited to one township in Yangon as of now: Pabedan.
More a trial than a launch
The public operator says it will be expanding its offer to other townships in Yangon and Mandalay by early next year. Coverage across other cities in Myanmar will follow all over 2018.
Promotional installation price is 150,000Ks for a limited time and then 200,000Ks.
According to the social networks, the offer is really available and customers are positive regarding the performance.
MPT Fiber just setup today. Good beginning however I don't have reckless optimism on ISPs in Myanmar.

Price wise, MPT is here to compete with Telenor and may these two giants decide to expend their coverage aggressively, it will be extremely challenging for the small players to compete.
In comparison, MyanmarNet -one of the cheapest ISP in the market- sell its packages at the average price of 30,000Ks per Mbps.
