Global Technology aka Globalnet is a solution provider in Myanmar providing wholesale and corporate data services in the country.
Globalnet has deployed a large fiber network using Yangon Electricity Supply Corporation (YESC) poles in Yangon and claims to own the largest fiber network in Myanmar economic capital city.
The Myanmar provider is now eyeing to monetize its existing fiber network by offering Internet services to the residential market with a new brand: 5BB.
5BB price range is attractive but installation fees remain expensive: 300,000 MMK.
Note that Global Technology recently got awarded spectrum to provide LTE services in Nay Pi Daw, Bago, Mon State and Kayin State. The Myanmar ISP will more likely use the brand 5BB to distribute its new wireless services in these regions.
Global Technology sister company, Redlink used to be the leading service provider in Myanmar but the company has seen a significant decrease of popularity. Myanmar Ministry of Transport and Communications also requested Redlink to surrender its current spectrum allocation which has been awarded to new companies.
The launch of 5BB probably marks the dusk of Redlink in Myanmar.
